Keep in mind that, at all times, the course of the anesthetic takes priority over the dental procedure. Should the patient begin to have complications, the procedure must be paused while the patient’s symptoms are treated and corrected. Should the patient have ongoing complications, do not hesitate to terminate the procedure and stabilize the patient.
At the conclusion of the procedure, the patient must still be continually monitored until all discharge criteria are met. There will be a whole lecture on appropriate discharge, but for now please review the modified Aldrete score. Each section is scored for a total of 10 points. The patient must have a score of at least 8, with no less than a 1 for each category.
