The physical evaluation and medical history is the objective and subjective evaluation of the patient to determine suitability for anesthesia. An additional component which needs to be factored into consideration is the suitability of anesthesia in an office based or ambulatory setting.
Both the physical evaluation of the patient and the comprehensive medical history should be focused on whether the patient is medically optimized for anesthesia or sedation. A finding of an untreated or uncontrolled co-morbidity may necessitate delaying the treatment until the issue has been resolved.
